4. TCL 4-Series

5. LG A1

In-Depth Reviews for Top 5 Best 50-Inch Smart TV

1. Samsung QN90A Neo QLED TV

Why we love it

  • Solar-chargeable remote

  • Neo QLED

  • Anti-glare abilities

Take note

  • Just one HDMI 2.1 port

  • No Dolby Vision support

As Samsung's most modern Neo QLED lineup in 2021, the QN90A possesses technologies and features that go even beyond what users can think of in a TV. The Samsung Neo QLED QN90A has a screen thickness of only about 2.7cm and the screen bezel is only about 1cm. Thanks to the removal of the lens section, Samsung was able to reduce the size of a Quantum Mini LED bulb by 40 times compared to a conventional LED bulb. This means that in the same screen area, Samsung can set more backlights, resulting in two improvements in image quality. "The brightness of the panels on the Samsung QN90A TV can completely overcome the phenomenon of anxiety on the glass when there is light directly into the screen, but with advanced anti-glare technology and Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL), this TV model has the ability to adjust the backlight brightness depending on environmental conditions."

With Neo QLED, Samsung's QN90A elevates the 4K QLED to a level of overall performance. Mini-LED backlighting has a positive, clear impact on FALD's performance and also the uniformity of the screen. We were unable to detect any FALD-LCD errors we had encountered before. The screen displays consistent brightness from one edge to another. If you're looking for a high-end 4K TV that offers modern features and performance, the 2021 Samsung QN90A Neo QLED is a great fit.

The Samsung Neo QLED QN90A has almost put its name on the world's best commercial TV product in 2021. It has a reasonable price with the image/sound quality that the user requires and goes further by equipping features that serve different user needs.

2. Sony KD-50X85J

Why we love it

  • Support 4K

  • Powerful sound

  • Great SDR peak brightness.

  • A huge number of apps

Take note

  • Direct reflections can be distracting.

The Sony KD-50X85J tv is designed in an impressive luxurious style; the size of 50 inches is suitable for display in bedrooms, luxurious living rooms,… The upside-down V-shaped stand helps the tv both create more style and help the TV stand on many forms of the plane. The low-cost Sony KD-50X85J TV has a 4K resolution that delivers extremely sharp images. Pixels can count up to 8.3 million times more than regular Full HD TVs. Along with the sharp image, the Sony 4K KD-50X85J TV also has a powerful sound system. The true, lively surround sound with Dolby Atmos creates a virtual surround sound like a cinema. The total power of 20W speakers delivers powerful sound, spreading throughout your space.

The 50-inch Sony 4K KD-50X85J TV has a neat, easy-to-use Android 10 operating system. TVs with stores with Google Play have a huge number of apps to meet all entertainment needs for the whole family such as watching movies, listening to music, entertainment, and playing games,… The only disadvantage of this television is that it has a relatively high price compared to other equipment products. But with outstanding features and advanced imaging technologies equipped on KD-50X85J televisions; this will be a device that meets the needs of good entertainment for your family to the fullest.

3.  LG C1

Why we love it

  • Infinite contrast

  • Wide viewing angle

  • Upgrade low-resolution content to better

  • Wide colour gamut

Take note

  • Not bright enough for HDR content

The LG C1 has a very nice design and is great for layout in any space. Although the stand takes up a lot of space, it looks great and is unique compared to other types of TV stands. Like all OLED TVs, the LG OLED C1 has almost limitless contrast, as the panel can turn off individual pixels. Unlike traditional LCD TVs, the contrast does not differ between OLED TVs shipped.

This TV has a maximum SDR brightness at a good level. Scenes with small bright areas can be extremely bright but darker when representing large areas of light, such as the ice and snow in the Arctic. Because the automatic brightness limit (ABL) feature works very strongly, images can have different brightness with certain content.

Since OLED TVs don't use backlighting, the LG OLED C1 doesn't have local dimming. However, its self-glowing pixels produce the perfect black colour without halos. LG OLED C1 supports FreeSync, HDMI Forum VRR and is certified by NVIDIA as compatible with G-SYNC. To turn on VRR, turn on Game Optimizer and make sure VRR and G-Sync are turned on for G-SYNC and HDMI Forum, and AMD FreeSync Premium is 'On' for FreeSync.

The VRR range is extended to a minimum of 20Hz when using HDMI 2.1 power sources. With HDMI 2.0, the minimum starts at 40Hz. The LG C1 comes with the new, redesigned webOS 6.0 operating system. Instead of the application range as in previous versions, the interface has become a smart centre with many different utilities and applications. The overall experience is quite quick and easy to use. LG's app store has a wide selection and smooth running apps.

4. TCL 4-Series

Why we love it

  • Comes with Google TV

  • Wide viewing angles

  •  Low input lag

  • Support HDR

Take note

  • The IPS-like panel has a low contrast ratio.

The 4 Series 2021 comes with Google TV, which is user-friendly and has a plethora of apps available for download from the Google Play Store. The 65-inch model we tested has an IPS-like panel with wide viewing angles and low contrast, unlike the other models, but there are some variants with a VA panel that has higher contrast at the expense of viewing angles. Aside from that, its picture quality isn't noteworthy because it doesn't get bright, causing glare in extremely bright rooms, and highlights don't pop in HDR. It also lacks extra features such as local dimming, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ support, and it cannot display a wide colour gamut, so it does not provide a satisfying viewing experience if you are used to streaming content in HDR.

Overall, the TCL 4 Series is satisfactory. Because of the wide viewing angles on the IPS-like panel, it performs well in wide seating arrangements, such as watching TV shows or sports, but some of the sizes have different panels with worse viewing angles. It's suitable for gaming because of its low input lag, but its response time is slow and it lacks additional gaming features. Unfortunately, its IPS-like panel has a low contrast ratio and lacks local dimming, so blacks appear grey when watching movies in SDR or HDR in dark rooms.

5. LG A1

Why we love it

  • OLED technology

  • Reasonable price

  • Dolby Vision IQ

Take note

  • With static content, there is a risk of permanent burn-in.

Thanks to its excellent performance capabilities, OLED is seen as the future of the TV industry. But along with that, the amount of money that customers have to spend to get this high-end experience is not small, because OLED technology requires complex, demanding manufacturing processes and expensive components. But in recent years, LG has continuously made efforts to improve the production line, aiming to "popularize" OLED TVs for every home. The most obvious evidence is the OLED A1 model, which is considered to have a reasonable price and many screen size options, helping to bring the high-end experience of OLED technology closer to users.

Not only does it have a 4K OLED panel and an AI processor similar to LG's other high-end OLED models, but the OLED A1 also shares many powerful platforms. In particular, Dolby Vision IQ – technology that intelligently adjusts image settings based on the content genre and surroundings, suitable for the tv location of each room. Sharing LG's platform, the A1 model also runs the webOS 6.0 platform with the advantages of an intuitive interface, smooth operations and fast response. Especially in the latest generation, LG TVs will automatically "learn" and "understand" the user's viewing habits, thereby making appropriate content recommendations. When you own this TV, you will experience high-end technology at a reasonable price. This must not be a bad choice.

FAQs

1. Can you connect a smart TV to Wi-Fi?

Most new Smart TVs are Wi-Fi-enabled, which means they include a wireless adapter. It only takes a few minutes to connect to the internet, but this option works best when your TV is in the same room as the router. Using the button on your remote, enter your Wi-Fi password.

2. What's the difference between QLED and crystal UHD?

The HDR (High Dynamic Range) system, which allows for accurate calibration of black and white tones, is built into both the QLED prototypes and the Crystal UHD models. Samsung Crystal UHDs typically have the HDR10+ version, whereas QLEDs have both HDR 10+ and Q HDR in addition to HDR 10+.
